The Vodafone Rally de Portugal will not be part of the World Rally Championship calendar in 2027. The decision is the result of a last-minute change in preparations for the next season, with the possibility of the Portuguese event returning to the WRC in 2028 already on the table.
The Vodafone Rally de Portugal will interrupt its presence in the World Rally Championship in 2027. The confirmation was made by the Automobile Club of Portugal (ACP), which reveals that the event was initially scheduled for May 13-16, but was ultimately removed from the calendar after changes made by the WRC promoter in the final stages of season preparation.
According to the ACP, the change is a result of the promoter's intention to make the World Rally Championship calendar "geographically as diverse and intercontinental as possible," an option that ultimately affected Portugal's presence in the championship.
This represents a significant change for one of the most emblematic events in the WRC, which has maintained a regular presence in the World Championship and has, in recent years, re-established itself as one of the benchmark stages of the calendar.
Despite its absence in 2027, the departure may only be temporary. The ACP (Automobile Club of Portugal) says that initial talks have already taken place with the promoter of the World Rally Championship to assess the return of the Vodafone Rally de Portugal to the calendar in 2028.
Therefore, Portugal will be without a WRC event for at least one season, with expectations now focused on negotiations between the ACP and the promoter so that the Portuguese competition can regain its place in the World Championship the following year.
